Please Share Your Contact Details If You’re Interested In Connecting With Other Classrooms

Image of MicSo how do you find classrooms to communicate with in other countries?

Hadn’t thought of that when I wrote the Quick Start Tips For New Skype Users post but fortunately Mike and David Ashby did.

So how can we make it easier for people to connect? Well been thinking that I could set up another page on The Edublogger like the Check out These Class Blogs page but for educators wanting to connect with other classrooms via Skype.

So I was wondering if you could help me? Are you interested in connecting with other classrooms?

Can you please share with us (by leaving a comment on this post):

  1. My name is Terry. I’m an eighth grade social studies teacher. I just created my class blog, and we’re going to launch when we get back from winter break. I would love to connect with other classes through our class blogs. Hopefully we can create a strong audience for our students to make our blogs more meaningful. We can leave comments and discuss.

Our school is in North Hollywood, Ca. Here is a link to our blog.

I am looking to start a project called WebPals based on the penpal model but using Skype instead of letters. I would like to have individual students in my class have weekly conversations with individual students from another country/ culture to increase their tolerance through friendship.

I would also like to have this grow into a social action project.

    1. Mike,

I am an 8th grade US history teacher in CA and have used skype with another teacher in the Los Angeles area. I am looking to collaborate with other teachers nationally and globally.

    1. Megan,
Although my content is 8th grade US History, I am unsure if the curriculum I teach is parallel to 11th grade US. Could you give me some background on the curriculum?

I am a technology integration teacher in a private school outside of Boston. I like very short projects that I can do in the 30 – 40 minutes that I see students each week. Voicethread responses work really well for us. I am also following the voyage of our teacher at sea, Skipper Rich Wilson as he sails the Vendee Globe. http://www.sitesalive.com

If anyone is following the Vendee Globe with their students, we’d love to hear from you.
To connect with others, we use voicethread, skype and the Discovere Virtual Classroom. (On occasion I take virtual fieldtrips in our evening so that a small group of my students can connect with contacts in the eastern hemisphere.)
    Looking forward to meeting you.

  7. I don’t have a classroom but a project to mention. Classrooms can connect at Project Peace and make music videos with downloadable materials. Lots of examples on the main page. Plus you get to learn some English! L- ots more info. about peace and I believe the higher goal of connecting classrooms is to teach students of our similarities and contribute to peace in that fashion.

Of course – we have thousands of teachers and classrooms at http://eflclassroom.ning.com Just make friends and start collaborating!

    1. Thanks David – is there a specific location on these sites where I can suggest they could go to leave their names if interested in connecting their classrooms?

  8. Thanks everyone – I’ve updated the list again. You can check out your details on this page. I’ve also added the Global Calender to the left sidebar. Please let me know if you can help add dates for your location.

    1. Hey Jim, thanks for the comment on our Blog. I have checked out your class Blog and think it is awesome. This is my first year of Blogging and I am loving it!!

I would be keen as to hook up and do a project with your class in 09. New Zealand school’s are on summer holiday until the 4th February, 2009. I will be changing school’s next year as well so it might take me a little while to get my Blog and class going again.

I’m sure the kids would enjoy communicating with a class from the USA and hopefully your class vice versa. E-mail me if you are keen, I’m sure we can sort something out.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

  12. Hi Everyone – I’ve started setting up the Skype Other Classrooms! page. Can I get you to check this page to make sure I have your details correct?

Also fitting this page in the tabs at the top has meant I’ve had to change the names of the other pages. Can you have a look at the new names and tell me what you think? Are they obvious? Or do I need to change them?

Also I was thinking it would be great to have a Calender that shows the start/finish dates for school terms/semesters in each region. The reason why is to make it easier for people to work out when they can connect.

I’m setting it up in Google Calender and will embed it on this blog. However would love help adding the dates. If you are able to help can you email me at suewater[at]gmail[dot]com and I will share the calendar with you.

Probably worth having something that shows timezones based on Daylight savings? Thoughts?

    What else have I missed?
