Dear Libby,
Thank you very much indeed for your kind comments on my ex-blog! I was able to transfer the old German blog to https://edublogs.org/ with the very kind help of the people at Edublogs, but I had decided to retire by the end of 2020 and felt rather dispirited after the archiving of everything I had created on the Global2 platform.
Despite all that, I’ve recently rebuilt the German Island blog completely at https://germanisland.edublogs.org/. I think that it is now more cohesive and navigable than ever before. I am publishing a new post every week and I have reworked nearly all the pages and fixed up the links. So it’s up and running, whereas back in April nothing would have been working properly. I do hope that you and your friends and colleagues can find some useful and engaging materials on it. I’ve updated all my quizzes with new pictures and made about 40 new quizzes and activities as well.
All the very best and thanks again from Roslyn Green
]]>Hi Elizabeth, so glad to see you enjoying Roslyn Greenโs Story in Blogging With High School Students! Roslyn’s blog has been moved to a different URL and can be found here https://germanisland.edublogs.org/
]]>I’m sure Roslyn will be thrilled to hear that, Bec. I too got lots of new ideas from hearing about her work! ๐
]]>Hi Lisa,
This is a good question. There’s really no right or wrong answer. While I personally liked having a class blog before student blogs, others dive straight into student blogs from the start and it works out wonderfully for them!
I think the main thing is that if you start without any student involvement, it’s good to eventually get the students involved — even if that’s just through comments and interactive content, like Roslyn.
As for your dilemma, you can always start slowly with the student blogs. Even if they just publish once or twice a month while also being a part of the class blog. That might work well?
Hope that doesn’t confuse you too much, Lisa! ๐
]]>P.S. I think I need to spend far more time exploring what she has done with her various blogs.
